"I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, I thought it was most interesting and informative. The part which really touched my heart was the part when Obaasan was trying to run after the train on her crooked legs, it just brought me to tears. I really admire Obaasan, after all she went through, she is such a strong, but cute character. Thanks to all who went to the trouble writing this story, I really appreciate it, and recommend it to everyone!"

"Thank you Leila and Mary for sharing your story. I was doing genealogy research when I came upon this website. Fascinating reading about Japanese culture, mores and values. My parents, aunts and uncles are also appreciative, since it gives them some insight into what their contemporaries went through during the war years in Japan."

"Best regards,"

"This was a very interesting and fascinating story to read and realize the difficulties that existed for these two young girls trapped between two cultures of two countries that go to war with one another. Knowing that their father and their own brothers and sister are 'home' in the United States and that these two sisters are in the ancestral home and yet torn in their lives gives quite a human dimension to their stories."

"Just finished reading the many pages which tell the family story on both sides of the Pacific. What an amazing set of circumstances! Made even more interesting to me, because our family is currently living on MCAS Iwakuni, which is the former Japanese-, British-, USAF-, US Army-, etc., base where one of the sisters worked! And the part about what was experienced in this area, when the bomb as dropped on Hiroshima, was an insight you can't even get by visiting the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima! Loved the pictures too, especially the one in front of Miyajima Torii.

"Thank you and the two sisters for sharing their story."

-DONELLA SPENCER, MCAS Iwakuni
